Getting started with Coherence X6
Coherence X6 turns websites into separate Mac apps. Each app has its own icon, browser data, settings, and window behavior, so services such as Gmail, Notion, Slack, or a private dashboard can live beside native apps in your Dock and Applications folder.

What you need
- A Mac running macOS 15 or later.
- Coherence X6 in your Applications folder.
- At least one supported browser engine installed or configured.
Coherence supports Google Chrome, Chrome Canary, Brave Browser, Microsoft Edge, Opera, Chromium, Vivaldi, and Helium. The browser supplies the underlying Chromium engine; your Coherence app remains separate from the browser and uses its own app data.
Set up Coherence
- Open Coherence X6.
- Complete the introductory screens.
- On Setup Your Browsers, confirm that Coherence found the browser engines you want to use.
- If a browser is marked Not Found, either install it or choose its application manually. You can change these paths later in Coherence > Settings > Browsers.
- Continue to the Coherence home screen.
Tip: Coherence normally finds browsers installed in /Applications . A custom browser location can be selected from Settings.
The home screen
The home screen has three primary actions:
- Create New App opens the app creator.
- Import Apps creates apps from a previously exported
.coherenceconfiguration file. - App Suggestions provides ready-made starting points for common services and multi-site setups.
The Your Apps sidebar is your app library. Use it to search, filter, sort, launch, edit, duplicate, export, reveal, or delete created apps.
Free version and licenses
The direct-download version of Coherence X6 lets you create one app for free with no time limit. Activate a license to create unlimited apps. Setapp customers are licensed through their active Setapp subscription.
When the free app has been created, it continues to work. You can also edit or delete it. To create additional apps, activate Coherence from the license controls shown on the home screen.
Create your first app
Select Create New App, enter a website URL and app name, choose a browser engine, review the available options, and select Create App. See Creating your first Coherence app for the complete walkthrough.
