Creating multi-tab apps

A standard Coherence app is centered on one website. A multi-tab app combines several pages in one browser-style window—for example, Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and Docs in a single Google Workspace app.

Multi-tab support with several configured tabs

Turn on multi-tab support

  1. Open Create New App, or edit an existing app.
  2. Under Options, turn on Multi-tab support.
  3. Enter a URL for each tab.
  4. Select Add Tab to add another page.
  5. Drag tabs to change their order. The first item is the default tab when the app opens.

Opera apps always use multi-tab support. Turning on Incognito mode also enables multi-tab support because private sessions open in a tabbed window.

Use a quick setup

Coherence includes quick setups for common groups of sites:

  • Common Social Media — Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
  • Google Workspace — Gmail, Calendar, Drive, and Docs.
  • Microsoft 365 — Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.

Choose a setup to add its URLs, then remove or reorder tabs as needed.

Save your own setup

Select Saved setups… to manage reusable tab groups. You can create a custom setup, give it a name and description, and enter its URLs. Saved setups make it faster to create several apps with the same group of services.

Restore the previous session

With Restore tabs on launch enabled, the app reopens the tabs from its last session. This can include pages opened after the app was originally created.

Turn the option off if the app should always return to its configured starting tabs instead. You can change this behavior later by editing the app in Coherence.

Standard versus multi-tab apps

Choose a standard app when you want a focused, single-service window. Choose a multi-tab app when the workflow naturally spans several pages, or when you want normal tab controls and session restoration.
