Bookmarks and History

Unite apps maintain their own bookmarks and browsing history, entirely separate from your browser. This article covers how to add and manage bookmarks, use the bookmark bar, and work with history.

Adding a Bookmark

Click the Bookmark menu at the top of your screen and choose Add Bookmark. A small popover appears pre-filled with the current page's title — edit the name if you like and click OK to save.

Managing Bookmarks

Open the Manage Bookmarks sheet from the Bookmark menu → Manage Bookmarks. This opens a full bookmarks manager as a sheet, where you can:

  • Rename bookmarks and folders
  • Drag to reorder or move between folders
  • Delete individual bookmarks or entire folders
  • Create new folders
  • Import and export bookmarks (see below)

The Bookmark Bar

The bookmark bar is a horizontal row of bookmarks directly below the toolbar, giving you one-click access to your most-used pages.

To show/hide the bookmark bar: Use ⌘B or go to View → Show Bookmark bar.

Bookmarks appear on the bar in the order they were added. Use the Manage Bookmarks sheet to reorder them.

Importing and Exporting Bookmarks

Both import and export are available from the toolbar inside the Manage Bookmarks sheet.

Exporting

Three formats are available:

Format File extension Use case
HTML (Netscape Format) .html   Import into Chrome, Safari, or any browser
Unite 5 & 6 Format .ubkm   Backup or transfer between Unite apps
Unite 4 Format .json   Legacy format

Importing

Accepted formats:

  • .ubkm   — Unite 5 format
  • .json   — Unite 4 JSON format
  • .html   / .htm   — Netscape Bookmark format, the standard export format from Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and most browsers

To import bookmarks from Chrome or Safari: export them from that browser as an HTML file, then import the .html   file into your Unite app from the Manage Bookmarks sheet.

Imported bookmarks are added to your existing collection — they don't replace it. Duplicate entries are skipped automatically.

Browsing History

History is accessed via the History menu at the top of the screen. Your visited pages appear as a dynamic list in that menu, most recent at the top, grouped by date. Click any entry to revisit that page.

There's no separate history window. To navigate forward and back through your browsing history, use ⌘[ (back) and ⌘] (forward).

Enabling or Disabling History

By default, Unite tracks your browsing history within each app. To turn this off:

Go to Settings → Privacy and disable Track browsing history.

When disabled, visited pages are no longer recorded. Existing history is not deleted — use History → Clear History to remove it.

Clearing History

Go to History → Clear History to wipe the history for the current app.

Session Restore

When Restore windows and tabs from the last session is enabled, Unite reopens your last session's tabs when you relaunch the app.

Find this option in Settings → General under the On startup section.
