Downloads, Permissions, and Privacy in Unite Pro

Unite apps give you full control over file downloads, per-site permissions (notifications, camera, microphone, location), and privacy settings like cookies and browsing data.

Download Manager

When a file download starts, a Download Banner slides in at the top of the window showing the filename, progress, and size.

Download Banner actions:

  • Cancel — Stops the download in progress
  • Show in Finder — Opens Finder to reveal the completed file

Viewing All Downloads

Open the full Download Manager with ⌘⇧J or via the menu. It lists all past and in-progress downloads with file names, sizes, and timestamps.

Click any completed download to quick-look the file, or click the folder icon to reveal it in Finder.

Changing the Download Location

By default, files are saved to your macOS Downloads folder. To change this:

Go to Settings → General → Download location and choose a folder.

Permissions Manager

The Permissions Manager gives you per-site control over the sensitive capabilities a website can request. Access it at Settings → Permissions.

Supported permissions

Permission What it controls
Notifications Whether the site can send push notifications via Notification Center
Camera Whether the site can access your Mac's camera (for video calls)
Microphone Whether the site can access your Mac's microphone
Screen sharing Whether the site can request screen capture
Location Whether the site can request your geographic location

Managing a permission

Each permission entry shows the domain and current status (Allow / Deny / Ask).

  • Allow — The site can use this capability without prompting
  • Deny — Requests from this site are automatically blocked
  • Ask — The site will prompt you each time (default for most permissions)

Click any entry to change its setting. Changes take effect on the next page load.

Location Manager

Location access is managed per-site in the dedicated Location Manager pane (Settings → Permissions → Location).

When a site requests your location, macOS will prompt you. You can approve or deny on the spot, and the Location Manager records your choice so the site won't ask again.

To change a location decision:

  1. Open Settings → Permissions → Location.
  2. Find the site.
  3. Click to change its setting (Allow / Deny / Ask).

Web Notifications

Web notifications let sites send alerts via macOS Notification Center — like a message from Slack or a calendar reminder from Google Calendar.

When a site requests notification permission, a macOS prompt appears asking if you want to allow it. Your choice is saved per site.

To view and manage notification permissions: Go to Settings → Permissions → Notifications.

If you want to disable all web notifications for a Unite app, toggle off Web notifications in Settings → General.

Cookies

Unite apps store cookies independently from your browser and from other Unite apps. You can control cookie behavior per app:

Go to Settings → Privacy → Cookie policy:

  • Accept all cookies (default) — All cookies are allowed
  • Block all cookies — No cookies are stored (may break sign-in on most sites)
  • Block third-party cookies — Allows first-party cookies (sign-in, preferences) but blocks cross-site tracking cookies
