Updating from Unite 6 to Unite Pro

If you have apps created with Unite 6 (or earlier versions), Unite Pro can migrate them to the new Pro format. This process updates each app's underlying bundle so it gains all the new features of Unite Pro while preserving your settings.

Migration requires an active Unite Pro license.

What Migration Does

When you migrate a Unite 6 app, Unite Pro:

  1. Replaces the legacy app bundle with a new Pro-format bundle
  2. Copies over your URL, name, icon, and display mode settings
  3. Applies your current Smart Enhancement detection to the site
  4. Preserves the app in your Applications folder at the same path

The migrated app will now receive Unite Pro updates, support new settings panes, and work with the full range of Pro features.

What Carries Over

Setting Migrated?
URL Yes
App name Yes
Icon Yes
Display mode Yes
Browsing data (cookies, session) Yes (data stays in place)
Saved passwords Yes (stored in Keychain, untouched)
Bookmarks Yes
History Yes
User scripts and styles Yes
Advanced settings Most carry over; some require re-configuration in the new settings UI

What Doesn't Carry Over

  • Legacy "Dock Slices" configurations (replaced by the new Dock Monitor — needs to be set up fresh)
  • Compact mode (no longer available in Unite Pro; apps in Compact mode are migrated to Normal mode)
  • Some legacy customization options that have been redesigned or removed

How to Migrate

From the Unite Pro sidebar:

If Unite Pro detects any Unite 6 apps installed on your Mac, an Update Available panel appears at the bottom of the sidebar. Click it to open the migration sheet, which lists all detectable legacy apps.

From the menu:

Go to Unite → Upgrade Unite 6 Apps… to open the migration sheet at any time.

In the migration sheet:

  1. Review the list of detected Unite 6 apps.
  2. Select which ones you want to migrate (you can do all or a subset).
  3. Click Migrate Selected Apps.
  4. Watch the progress. Each app takes a few seconds.

After Migration

Once migrated:

  • Apps appear in your Unite Pro library in the sidebar.
  • They behave identically to apps created fresh in Unite Pro.
  • The original Unite 6 app bundle is replaced — there's no separate "legacy" copy left.

If you want to keep a backup before migrating, use Export on each app first — though note that export is a Unite Pro feature and requires activation.

Troubleshooting

Migration sheet shows no apps

Unite Pro scans your Applications folder and any custom save locations. If your Unite 6 apps are elsewhere (a subfolder, external drive, etc.), the scanner may not find them automatically. In this case, drag the .app    bundle into the migration sheet to add it manually.

An app didn't migrate correctly
