Importing, Exporting, and Backing up Unite Pro apps

Unite Pro lets you export any app as a .uniteconfig   file — a complete backup of that app's configuration. You can use these backups to restore an app on the same Mac, transfer apps to a new Mac, or share configurations with others.

Export and import both require an active Unite Pro license.

Exporting an App

  1. In Unite Pro, select the app you want to back up from the sidebar.
  2. Click Export in the detail view, or right-click the app and choose Export.
  3. Choose where to save the .uniteconfig   file and click Save.

The file is saved immediately. No progress bar — it's fast.

What's included in a .uniteconfig  file:

  • App name and URL
  • Icon (including custom icons)
  • Display mode (Normal, Sidebar, Menu Bar)
  • All creation-time settings (appearance, ad blocking, link forwarding, launch at startup, etc.)
  • Multiple tab configuration
  • Smart Enhancement settings
  • Saved window size

What's not included:

  • Browsing data (cookies, session, local storage)
  • Saved passwords
  • Bookmarks and history
  • User scripts and styles (these sync separately via the cross-app sync system)

Importing an App

  1. In Unite Pro, go to File → Import… (or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘O).
  2. Locate and select the .uniteconfig   file.
  3. The creation sheet opens, pre-filled with the saved settings. Review or adjust anything, then click Create Application.

The app is rebuilt and added to your library.

Use Cases

Moving to a new Mac

Export all your apps before migrating. Copy the .uniteconfig   files to your new Mac (via AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or USB). Open Unite Pro on the new Mac and import each file.

Backup before major changes

If you're about to significantly reconfigure an app, export it first as a safety net.

Sharing with others

You can share a .uniteconfig   file with a colleague or friend. When they import it, they'll get an identically configured app. (Note: They'll need their own Unite Pro license to import it.)

Tips

  • Store your .uniteconfig   files in iCloud Drive or another cloud service so they're automatically available on any Mac you own.
  • Use a consistent naming convention like gmail-work.uniteconfig   for easy identification.
  • The .uniteconfig   format is specific to Unite Pro — it cannot be opened by Unite 6 or earlier versions.
