Getting started with Quip for iOS and iPadOS
What is Quip?
Quip is an intelligent clipboard manager for Mac, iPhone and iPad that saves everything you copy—text, images, links, documents, and more—and makes it instantly accessible across all your Apple devices through iCloud sync.

Software Requirements
- iOS 18.0 or later / iPadOS 18.0 or later
- iCloud account (for sync features)
- At least 100MB of available storage
Supported Orientations
- iPhone: Portrait orientation only
- iPad: Portrait, Portrait Upside Down, Landscape Left, and Landscape Right
First Steps
When you first launch Quip, you'll be guided through an interactive onboarding experience:

- Explore History: Learn about the clipboard history interface

3. Enable the Keyboard Extension
To use Quip's powerful keyboard features:
- Open Settings on your device
- Navigate to General → Keyboard → Keyboards
- Tap Add New Keyboard
- Select Quip from the list
- Tap Quip again and enable Allow Full Access
The Quip Keyboard grabs your clipboard history, and adds items, using iCloud. iOS only allows keyboards to access the internet with full access. We do not have access to your data and the keyboard will only track information you ask it to by using the copy button.

4. Your First Copy
- Copy any text, image, or link from any app
- Launch Quip Keyboard, or the Quip app, and push the Copy button
- Open Quip to see your item automatically saved in the History tab
- Tap any item to copy it back to your clipboard
- Use the keyboard extension to access items from any app
5. Explore the Interface
The main interface consists of four tabs:
- History: Your clipboard history with all copied items
- Collections: Organize items into custom folders and smart collections
- Shortcuts: Create and manage Super Shortcuts for text expansion
- Settings: Customize your Quip experience and manage sync

6. Try the Keyboard Extension
- Open any app that uses the keyboard (Messages, Notes, etc.)
- Tap the globe icon to switch to Quip keyboard
- Browse your clipboard history or use Super Shortcuts
- Tap any item to paste it instantly

7. Enable Auto-Paste (Optional)
For automatic clipboard monitoring:
- Copy something to your clipboard and add it using the copy button in the keyboard or the main app
- Go to Settings -> Quip
- Enable Auto-paste on app open to automatically save clipboard content when you open Quip
- Enable Auto-paste on keyboard open to save content when using the keyboard extension

Pro Tips for Getting Started
- Search everything: Use the search bar to find text within images and documents using OCR
- Organize with Collections: Create collections for work, personal, or project-specific content
- Use Super Shortcuts: Create shortcuts for frequently used text, addresses, or responses
- Sync across devices: Ensure iCloud sync is enabled to access your clipboard on all devices
