Getting started with Coherence X
Prerequisites & System Requirements
In order to use Coherence, you'll need to be using macOS 10.15 or greater. After the trial period, you'll also need a licensed copy - which can be acquired directly from BZG or can be used as part of the Setapp subscription bundle.
Coherence uses chromium-based browser as a backend to turn websites into apps on your Mac. As such, you'll need the latest version of one of the following:
Support for additional browsers is tentatively being planned for later releases.
Setting up Coherence
The first time you launch Coherence, you'll be greeted with the setup menu. This will only appear the first time you launch the app, and can not be reactivated at a later time.
If this is your first time using Cohernece, follow the directions in the setup menu. In case you missed the setup process or need help, here's everything the setup menu does and how to do it manually:
Setting up browsers
- In order to ensure complete compatibility, please have Coherence and your browsers stored in your Applications folder.
- If you regularly use Chrome, Chrome Canary, Edge, Opera, or Brave, you can ignore this step and go to the following one. If you are downloading any of these browsers for the first time, please make sure to have launched them at least once before using them in Coherence.
- Push ⌘, or go to Coherence X in the menu bar, in order to launch Preferences. From here, select the location for each browser you intend to use with Coherence X.
Updating apps
If you are updating to Coherence X4 from Coherence X, you can update your existing apps so they also get the latest features. You can update your apps within the setup tool, or at anytime by pushing Coherence X in the menu bar, and then Updater.
It is strongly recommended you back up one app and test wih the updater before updating all your apps in case of some unforeseen compatibility error.
For more information about updating apps and when it should be done, read the updating apps article.
The setup process also provides a general feature overview.
